SPITAK CITY LIBRARY

The City Library of Spitak was founded in 1939.  It was formerly known as the Nairi Zarian Central Library. In those times, the director of the Library was B.Atikian.

At first, the Library held 60000 volumes: books, magazines, newspapers.  Since 1977, the director of City Library is K. Grigorian.  After the earthguake of 1988, the City Library lost most of its books, 25 to 30 thousand.  Twenty or thirty thousand books remained in the Library.

After some years, many organizations and businessmen helped the Library with donations of books, which were much needed.  Now the City Library has a variety of literature: detective stories, novels, professional works, and so on.  The books are in Armenian and in foreign languages.
Many children, students, workers, and pensioners attend to Library. There are many fascinating books and journals  at the Library -- great reading for everyone!

There is a Children's Library, too.  It is the heart of the Library.

I am Nara.  I am a Children's Librarian.  I work with the youngest readers.  I help them choose books for reading.  They are very sweet.  For the most part, children love to read Hovannes Tumanian's tales.

I often organize meetings with the children. We speak about the books they have read.  I try to give them advice.  Lately we organized a Puppet Theater show for children, based on the "Three Little Pigs" tale.

We also have groups of Young Artists and Writers -- there are very talented children among our readers.  The library is ready to help all of them, providing children with interesting books and intellectual meetings.

The book is the best way to gain knowledge.  So go to the library, read books, because books will help you grow intellectually.
