Spitak Boarding School

The Spitak Boarding School was founded in 1992.  The school building was built by an Italian charity.  From the very beginning, the school has been fortunate to have generous benefactors, such as Charles Aznavour, who was one of the first people to back the creating of the Spitak Boarding School.  The School was intended for children that were growing up without parental care, in difficult conditions.  The Spitak Boarding School, unlike the other eight schools in the city, has special afterclass hours, with trainers on hand to assist the students with their homework.

The students at the School are given their textbooks for free.

Now the Boarding School has a special class for the handicapped children that are being cared for at the Mother Teresa Hospital in Spitak, to provide these children with basic training.

The steady progress at the School has been fueled by the efforts of its teaching staff: the school has many veteran teachers, and a growing generation of young ones, all of whom are working hard to insure that the School and its students always stand among the best.  There are many special events happening at the School: meetings with famous people, and celebrations of special occasions.  The Boarding School students take part in Olympiads (educational competitions), and go on to college.

The Spitak Boarding School presently has 150 students, and 30 teachers:

The Boarding School takes care of its students through the summer months, as well: the School has been home to many International Student Camps, which bring together college students from all over Armenia and from abroad, to work with the local children, for a summer of games, fun classes and performances.
